10 March 2026, the College had a Student Representative Council (SRC) training held at Mount View hotel where our new SRC members from different campus gathered marking a significant day for student leadership development. Directed by our SLO, Ms. Z. Mzelemu. The program kicked off with introductions by Ms R.Khumalo (AD: SSS) setting a welcoming tone for the participants.
The event aimed to cultivate informed, responsible and proactive student leaders capable of representing their peers effectively. By fostering on governance, financial literacy, and communication. The event set a solid foundation for the new SRC to drive positive change on their campuses underscoring the institution’s commitment to nurture student leadership and fostering a collaborative campus environment. The College Principal Mr. C.J Ndlela outlined the objectives of the induction emphasizing the SRC’s role in student welfare and campus governance. The principal also committed to prioritize the needs of the students working together with the SRC for the college to run smoothly.
Another purpose for this training was to inform the Student Representative Council about the roles, responsibilities, protocol and acceptable behavior that they need to adhere to. Ms. B.N Mpangase (DP: Academics) conducted a clear presentation that covered all these topics, attending to all enquiries and questions by the SRC members. Ms. Mpangase also highlighted the changes that will take place as the College will be soon introducing Occupational Programs, “Your role and expected duty on this matter is to ensure that students are well informed about the changes, what will happen when the R191 phases out and how will that affect the students”. The members seem keen and listened attentively as she was presenting.
The training also consisted of finance practices presented by Mr. S Mabanga (DP: Finance), how much is budgeted for the SRC, platforms and ways they need to adhere to when approaching the finance offices. Ms Z. Mazibuko (DP: Corporate Services) also touched on the Marketing and Communication protocols that the Student Representative Council must adhere to such as “the correct way addressing media”.
The event was fruitful to both management and SRC as it covered all the aspects and stakeholders involved in ensuring that the needs of a students are met. The new members also got a chance to ask questions concerning any issues the students are currently facing, management answered promptly. Ms. Mkhize (SLO Estcourt Campus) spoke on SAVETSA explaining the role and benefits that the students have towards SAVETSA. The vision of the college is to work together with the SRC to be proactive when attending students’ challenges, avoiding miscommunications and proving effective service when it comes to their academics.
