Mnambithi TVET College successfully hosted its second-semester induction sessions for the 2026 academic year. While these sessions aimed to integrate fresh minds into the tertiary space, this particular rollout marked a significant moment in the institution's history. This semester represents the final registration window for the traditional NATED (Report 191) programs.
From the 20th -23rd July the college hosted inductions for our 3 campuses namely EZakheni A Campus, EStcourt Campus and Ladysmith Campus. The Inductions kicked off with strong attendances focusing on setting high academic standards and introducing students to the campus infrastructure, Students were given comprehensive briefings regarding curriculum structures, workshop safety guidelines and campus rules. Ms. Mpangase (DP: Academic Services) emphasised the importance of self-discipline, hard work and dedication as she was welcoming our new students to the college. Followed by Ms R. Khumalo (AD: SSS) who spoke on the acceptable behaviour from Mnambithi TVET College, WIL processes and Placement Process. SLO’s also touched on the code of conduct that students must adhere to as well as extracurricular activities available to students. Lecturers and administration stuff also welcomed new students, explaining some of the services they render to the college that will help assist students to settle in well in the campuses.
Campus leadership used the platform to deliver a critical message to the newly registered students: they are officially the last cohort to be walked through the NATED curriculum. For decades, Report 191 programs have been the backbone of technical vocational training. However, this intake represents the absolute final opportunity for students to complete their qualifications under this legacy framework. Students were urged to take their studies seriously, avoid unnecessary delays, and pass their modules on the first attempt to graduate seamlessly before the old system completely phases out.
The reason behind this hard cut-off is the upcoming national shift in vocational education. Starting next year, in 2027, Mnambithi TVET College will fully transition to the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) programs. The upcoming QCTO programs are modern, occupational qualifications designed to align directly with modern industry demands. They place a heavier emphasis on practical work-integrated learning, workplace experience, and updated technical skills. While the college prepares its infrastructure and staff for this massive transition next year, the current focus remains on ensuring that this final NATED intake receives the highest standard of academic support to complete their journey successfully.
