30 June 2025 we attended the Department of Employment and Labour Youth Career Exhibition held at Mabhomane Primary School, St Chads Ladysmith.
In most cases when doing exhibition and career expos our focus tends to be on pupils only and leave the youth behind, yesterday our target was to address the youth of St Chads about the beautiful opportunities that lie within the TVET sector. The youth came in numbers as there were different organizations and departments such as Department of Agriculture, Department of Transport, Department of Employment and labour, YouthSA and more to assist them with opportunities available at their organizations, creating curriculum vitae, correct way of filling the Z83 form and short courses available at TVET Colleges.
We were also there to provide information about our short courses which are Welding, Carpentry and Auto-motive repairs and Maintenance. These short courses are 3 months long and to register you only need grade 10. short courses are designed to deliver practical, job-specific skills in a condensed timeframe. This means you can quickly acquire the competencies needed to enter the workforce. For instance, a carpentry short course will teach you fundamental building techniques, while a welding course will equip you with essential joining methods. An automotive repair course will cover basic diagnostics and maintenance. This rapid skill acquisition translates directly into faster job readiness, allowing you to start seeking employment sooner.
These short courses at Mnambithi TVET College offer a direct and effective route for unemployed youth to gain valuable skills, improve their employability, and even explore entrepreneurial ventures within the local economy.
