DEPUTY MINISTER DR NOMUSA DUBE-NCUBE CONDUCTS OVERSIGHT VISIT TO ASSESS 2026 READINESS

On January 21, 2026, Mnambithi TVET College was honored to host a high-level oversight visit by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. Nomusa Dube-Ncube. As part of the Department’s national effort to ensure a smooth start to the 2026 academic year. The Deputy Minister conducted a detailed walkabout and management engagement at both the Ezakheni ‘A’ Campus and the Estcourt Campus.


The primary focus of the visit was to evaluate the college's state of readiness. Dr. Dube-Ncube’s visit wasn't just a formality; it was a hands-on assessment of how the institution is prepared to handle the influx of new and returning students and cracked the whip where she saw an unsatisfactory or substandard workmanship. Key areas of focus included infrastructure review and service delivery assessment, the capacity of lecture halls, workshops, and student facilities to ensure they meet the standard required for technical excellence. During her walkabout, Dr. Dube-Ncube engaged directly with staff and students, emphasizing that TVET College’s are "institutions of choice." She urged students to embrace entrepreneurship and practical skills, moving beyond being job seekers to becoming the future business owners of South Africa. She also spoke about making TVET Colleges institution of revolution, they must have skills that are required to improve the country, skills that will place TVET students ahead and skills that will produce entrepreneurs.
As the college is curving to a new direction which is bringing occupational courses to the college, the Deputy Minister also encouraged that teachers need to be retrained in order to be able to teach these skills as they are necessary to compete globally.

 In noting the challenges that the College have the oversight visit concluded with a commitment from the Department of Higher Education and Training to provide ongoing support to Mnambithi TVET College. By addressing infrastructure constraints and streamlining service delivery, the college is set to make 2026 a landmark year for vocational training in uThukela District.
